UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the new restrictions which took effect on 5 November (19 Rabi' al-Awal) and ended on 2 December (17 Rabi' al-Akhir). The closure of Pubs, Restaurants and most Retail Stores in the UK is in effect.

The government's scientific advisory panel, known as SAGE, estimated in a report dated October 14 that there were between 43,000 and 75,000 new Infections a day in the UK. That level is above the worst case scenario calculated just a few weeks earlier.

The country's coronavirus patients have gone from less than 100 to more than 500 in a month, at its facilities across the Western Cape. The World Health Organization works with scientists in the UK. They are trying to understand whether the new Coronavirus Variant reported there spreads more easily, causes more severe disease, and avoids the antibody response generated by vaccination, Maria van Kerkhove, the agency's technical lead for COVID-19, told the BBC.
